@Tagamanila Yes, I heard the local agents typically use Taglis

"@Tagamanila Yes, I heard the local agents typically use Taglish, which is really interesting to me! In Japan, where I live now, agents have to follow very strict scripts and speak in a very polite manner. Is there a similar culture in the Philippines? How would an agent typically answer a call? In English, we'd say something simple like: "Hello, this is with . How may I help you today? But in Japanese, it would be waaayyyy more formal, with a bunch of honorifics, formal expressions, and super po..."

"Thanks, @calinga and @rambo2fit! It's nice to get some positive feedback on the site. We're glad to have you both back! I haven't listened to Barangay Love Stories, I'll have to check it out...I'm always looking for good resources for Tagalog audio. @rambo2fit Small world! Myra's cousin and husband and their 5 little ones will be visited us this evening, and they live in General Santos. We visited them in Dallas the week prior and they invited us to see their home in GenSan. I'd love to make a trip..."

"@Tagamanila Thank you! I plan to make more time to participate and contribute here again. I visited family in Maynila and Gensan last August and it was a great trip. It always is. It is really great to be immersed in the culture and I try to duplicate that here in the US too. I have been studying still but not as much as I could have been...."

"@JamesInTokyo In case what you meant was if local agents use Tagalog or Tag-lish, then I would think that most likely it's going to be Tag-lish. The vernacular has already become predominantly Tag-lish. With Tag-lish, English words replace some Tagalog words in a sentence. For example, "What is your name?" is "Ano ang pangalan mo?" in straight Tagalog. This becomes "Ano ang name mo?" in Tag-lish. 😁..."

"I miss you all. I need to spend more time here learning again. @rambo2 fit We've missed you too. FilipinoChatAdmin and MyraBean were here in Manila last month and we were able to meet. In one of our talks, I mentioned you as one of those who seem to have simply vanished all of a sudden. See that? We already consider you as part of the "family". 😎..."

"@calinga > Pero hindi iyan ang dahilan kung bakit hindi ako nandito. => ... kung bakit nawala ako dito (as to why I have not been here). - There was a question here about a week or so ago about "nandito". I mentioned there that you can't use it in the negative. "Nandito" becomes "wala dito" in the negative. "... kung bakit wala ko dito" = as to why I was not here. > I’ve been super busy but once it’s summer break from college in May I plan on being an everyday visitor again! = Naging so..."

"@calinga @rambo2fit @banyaga02 The explanations about the difference in meaning given by rambo2fit and banyaga02 are correct. And banyaga02 is right about "May alam AKO". It is not "May alam KO". Alam mo ba ang kantang "Pangako sa Iyo"? = Do you know the song "Pangako sa Iyo"? - Do you know how it goes/to sing it? May alam ka ba tungkol sa kantang "Pangako..."

I’ve been keeping up with Barangay Love Stories on my 1 hour round trip to and from work hoping to not regress and I think it’s been working out alright. But when summer break hits in the beginning of May I’ll be right back at some more flashcards! Being able to talk with my girlfriend’s family and surprise everyone being a white guy wi..."

"@Wade You're welcome, Wade! I made a tweak on my answer yesterday. I changed "does not happen" to "does not have to happen". It is not wrong to say: Hindi ba ni John alam? Hindi si Mary natulog. Hindi sila John at Mary aalis. it's just that the word arrangements I gave earlier are usually how we would say them. Maybe that's because it's the verb that is being negated and the idea of the sentence might be easier to understand if the negation and the verb are closer to each other...."
